Who is Western Australia Expert?

If you’re planning a trip to Western Australia and wondering where to start, you’re in the right place.

I’m Wendy, the founder of Western Australia Expert.

I’ve lived in Western Australia since 2000, but I wasn’t born here. I grew up in London and moved to WA when I was 30.

More than 25 years later, I still love exploring this enormous and incredibly varied state.

I created Western Australia Expert to help you work out where to go, what’s actually worth seeing and how to put it all together — using advice from someone who knows WA first-hand.

From London to Western Australia

Moving from London to Western Australia was quite a change.

Suddenly, places weren’t a short drive or train ride apart. Beaches could be almost empty. Road trips could involve hundreds of kilometres of driving, and some of the best places I’d ever seen were nowhere near a major city.

Over the years, I’ve travelled extensively around WA and discovered just how much there is beyond Perth.

I’ve explored the South West, travelled along the Coral Coast, visited the beaches around Esperance, taken countless WA road trips and spent years discovering places close to home in Perth.

And I’m still exploring.

That experience is what eventually led to Western Australia Expert.

Why I created Western Australia Expert

Planning a Western Australian holiday can be surprisingly difficult.

WA is huge.

Distances are easy to underestimate. Some places need to be booked months ahead. The best time to visit one part of the state can be completely different from another.

Then there are hundreds of tours, beaches, national parks, hotels and road-trip stops to choose from.

It’s very easy to try to fit far too much into one trip.

That’s where I can help.

Instead of giving you a huge list of places and leaving you to work it out, I want Western Australia Expert to help you make better decisions about your trip.

I’ll tell you what I’d prioritise, how long I’d stay and, importantly, when I don’t think something is worth squeezing into your itinerary.

to make planning your Western Australian trip easier and help you spend your time and money on experiences you’ll actually enjoy.

Why trust my advice?

I’ve lived in Western Australia for more than 25 years.

But I think there’s another reason my perspective can be useful.

I remember what it was like not to know Western Australia.

Coming here from London meant learning everything from scratch — the distances, climate, seasons, roads and just how remote some destinations really are.

Now I have the benefit of decades of living here.

That means I can look at WA from both sides: as a local who knows the state and as someone who understands what can confuse a first-time visitor.

I’ve also been writing about travel in Western Australia for years through Western Australia Expert and Perthtravelers.

This isn’t a website created about a destination I’ve visited once.

Western Australia is my home.

When I’m not working on Western Australia Expert, you’ll usually find me planning another trip, exploring somewhere around WA or spending time with my family.

I’m also a mum to twin daughters, who have grown up in Western Australia.
